"We conducted an informal study of our weekly hands-on program. Surveys were filled out by 108 LifeSpark participants in-person before the first and before the twelfth sessions. (At that time our program was 3 months long.) Results showed statistically significant improvements in physical and emotional states. Depression, somatization, anxiety and fatigue decreased while physical well-being, functional well-being and peace/meaning improved." LifeSpark Cancer Resources

"This a quasi-experimental single group pre-test. Post-test design research was conducted between September 2022 and April 2023 and included 25 individuals with extremity amputation. Then, according to Classical Usui Reiki, distant Reiki application has been performed for 20 minutes every day for 10 days. Data were collected at the beginning of the study and at the end of the 10th day. The data were obtained using an Introductory Information Form, the Visual Analog Scale for Pain, and Holistic Well-Being Scale.

Results

The mean age of the participants was 51.32 ± 16.65 years. There was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test pain levels of the participants (p < .05) and HWBS subscale scores (p < .05). Accordingly, it was determined that after 20-minute distant Reiki sessions for 10 consecutive days, the pain levels of the individuals were significantly reduced and their holistic well-being improved.

Conclusion

Distant Reiki has been found to be easy to administer, inexpensive, non-pharmacological, and appropriate for independent nursing practice to be effective in reducing phantom pain levels and increasing holistic well-being in people with limb amputation.- ScienceDirect.com

"This study investigated the effect of distant Reiki sessions on the holistic well-being of people without no acute/chronic diseases. The study was conducted between February 1 and March 31, 2022. The sample consisted of 180 healthy people living in a city in Turkey. Participants attended 20-minute distant Reiki sessions (intervention) for 4 consecutive days. Pretest data were collected using a personal information form, the Holistic Well-Being Scale (HWBS), the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and the Subjective Vitality Scale (SVS). Posttest data were collected 2 days (posttest I) and 1 week after the intervention (posttest II) using the HWBS, PANAS, and SVS. There was a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest I and II HWBS subscale scores (P < .05). There was a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest PANAS and SVS scores (P < .05). Distant Reiki sessions improved participants' holistic well-being. They also helped them develop a positive mood, experience and perceive less sadness, and develop subjective vitality and cognitive awareness." - Holistic Nursing Practice

"Participants were exposed to an innovative nursing distant Reiki study to promote healing and comfort through the lens of Reiki and Rogerian science. Both qualitative and quantitative findings of reduction in perceived manifestations of stress and anxiety showcased positive pattern changes when using a home-based distant healing therapy. Feasibility data showed positive recruitment and retention, which is important given the need for distant healing modalities during the COVID-19 pandemic. There was a noted transformative experience in participant well-being that positions for future, large-scale research by replicating this study using a longer time of data collection and a larger sample size. Distant healing modalities that enhance awareness, reflection, and self-discovery may foster healing that provides meaningful and sustained change." - National Library of Medicine
